Hummingbird Necklace

From the Pre-Columbian Collection. The original stylized bird was cast in gold by the lost wax process, and came from the Cauca Valley, Columbia. The hummingbird, or "Feathered Gem," is the smallest of all birds. They are known for their rapid flight, their wings beating so quickly that they produce a hum. The hummingbird is almost fearless and will even attack a hawk if its nest is threatened.

Thus leaving the coins figure floating inside its outer edge (or rim). The figure is then selectively layered (by hand) in brilliant gold and silver. Each work of art comes complete on a copper rope chain layered in 14K gold and in a jewelry box.
